PostSubject: R.I.P.   Tue Jan 06, 2015 8:09 am

I'm trying real hard to be my normal self right now but I don't know if I'll be around all that much for a while.

Over the weekend my snake, my baby girl, the pride of my little pack of animals, passed away. I feel sick. She was my first pet ever purchased with my own money, and my inspiration for so much in my life. I loved her like my own child. Over the past couple of years, admittedly, I had become afraid of her, however. Due to a shoddy shed (we hadn't realized until it was too late, unfortunately, that our old apartment was...not fit for any living creature, let alone a snake, which is a pretty sensitive one), she had lost quite a bit of her eyesight. This, unfortunately, had made her rather aggressive, insofar as she would strike at just about everything, whereas before I would carry her everywhere, because she never struck unless she knew it was food (she wasn't even face-shy, I used to pet her nose a lot...oops and now I'm crying again).
...
Well needless to say I became a little gun-shy so to speak, because she bit me one day, and any snake owner will tell you that happens, I've been bit before by snakes I've had in the past growing up, that's not what the problem was. The problem was, she wasn't about to let go. She held on to my finger, coiled around herself, and started to pull. She was locked on, and she was going to take it for herself. I was terrified, I couldn't do a thing about it, and in a lot of pain to boot, and my husband couldn't get her to release. She was so determined, she wouldn't even let go for a shower, like most snakes do, and we ended up having to pry her off. I hadn't tried to hold her since that because, honestly, I didn't want HER to get hurt. I couldn't have cared less about myself, but I was scared next time would end up with her having a broken jaw or something.

I can't help feeling like I would have noticed something was wrong with her if I had still been holding her like I used to. If I had just manned up and held my baby girl like I used to...maybe I would have seen this coming, and been able to help her. As it stands, however, we had no warning, we just came home and she was gone...my mom and I fought about her before Jericho was born. She told me Fleck had become too aggressive, and I needed to get rid of her before the baby came along, but I told her to shut her mouth. I wasn't about to give up on her...because I thought I could learn with her to get around her problem. She wasn't really aggressive, she was just scared of things because she couldn't see...my mom never got that...I wanted Jericho to know her...I just feel so empty right now...

Rest in peace, baby girl. At least whatever suffering you were enduring is over now...I'm sorry I wasn't better to you...

Oh, hon... we all wonder what we could have done to foresee tragedy, but the truth is that only hindsight is 20/20. It's clear that you loved her very much, and you still do. She's in my thoughts... Let me know if you need anything <3333 If you'd like to reminisce and share pictures, I'm always available :[

Im so so sorry for your loss, I lost a pet a few months back and I had him for SO many years. I regretted not spending more time with him in his old age, the reason I didnt was because he became annoying, like he would constantly be ALL OVER YOU. And it annoyed me so much, I would just push him away, and after my baby passed away I felt like I abandoned him somewhat. But I realized that I think we get so comfortable we dont think about these things, which is fine, the important thing is you loved your pet very very much and I'm sure your baby knew you loved them as well. <3 Take all the time you need, we will all still be here for you!

I'm sorry for your loss. My 7 year old guinea pig passed away in her sleep on Sunday, but we were expecting her death as she'd became quiet during the week and was not eating as much. It's really horrible to lose a loved one, that includes pets as they're part of the family too. The best thing you can think of is that you gave her a good life, a warm home and lots of yummy mice to eat etc which I'm sure they loved you for.

I'm very sorry for this loss. I know how you feel, I lost an animal I loved as well not that long ago. I know it hurts, and you'll always keep them in your heart. Hope everything is fine.<3
